 DOUDOU CISSOKO
DOUDOU CISSOKO is continuing his family tradition (the Cissokos are all celebrated Senegalese griots) but also bringing western influences into his soothing, beautiful and very accessible music. Master kora player, composer and singer DOUDOU CISSOKO is currently promoting his album "Dimbaya" on DB records (Sony/BMG). Cissoko's kora (21 stringed African harp) and superb vocals are backed by the double-bass of DAVIDE MANTOVANI (ANTONIO FORCIONE, HASSAN ERRAJI, JIM MULLEN....), the percussion of ALICIA DAVIES (Peter Badejo Dance Company Seckou Keita), and on some of the shows by the cello of JENNY ADEJAYAN. "Profound and spiritual, imbued with timeless wisdom, yet folksy and sunsplashed" 4 stars - The Guardian. " Excellent world music fusion of a different kind. An impressive album" - HMV Choice Magazine.
"Listening to DOUDOU CISSOKO'S kora playing is akin to a spiritual immersion. The to and fro of the music is complemented perfectly by the calm assurances of his superb vocals. Like his fellow West African Ali Farka Toure, he is a moving and gentle musical presence." Big Big World Festival, Glasgow. |
